The Symposium is Pennsylvania’s workforce development board event that brings together over 200 policymakers, decision-makers, management, administrators, staff, and supporters from across the Commonwealth.

The Symposium provides participants the opportunity to discuss national, state and local level policy ideas and solutions, network with experts across the continuum of employment, discuss common interests and shared customers, and walk away with the knowledge and “how-to” implement best and promising practices.

In addition, the Symposium agenda incorporates an Industry Partnership roundtable that brings together regional and local staff, business members, and partners from across the Commonwealth with the State Workforce Development Board and other agency staff. The roundtable is the annual technical assistance and development event for grant-funded and non-grant funded Partnerships.

Targeted Attendees:

  • Professionals whose work targets or supports jobseekers and workers to eliminate barriers, have the career awareness and relevant experience, knowledge skills and abilities to obtain and maintain high quality employment
  • Professionals whose work targets or supports talent management, employer engagement as well as community and economic development to promote and align workforce development services to demand-driven needs.

Business Engagement Showcase
PWDA has planned a Business Engagement Showcase during the Symposium Welcome Reception on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.  More details can be found here.

Core Themes: Pennsylvania’s workforce development system successfully serves thousands of business and worker customers every year in addition to partnering with key education, community, economic development, and human services partners to leverage resources, funding and expertise. The 2019 will focus on policy and operational areas of: 

Tech Infusion: Using Data & Technology to Advance Workforce Leadership, Operations & Success Evolution: A Future Look at Work and Evolving Workforce Development Systems in Pennsylvania Integration: Approaches to Shared Customers, Partnerships and Common Goals               

 

Over 20 workshops, plenary discussions, and a workforce development showcase will bring together Pennsylvania’s workforce development professional, experts, and partners. 

In addition to the core tracks of the Symposium, discussions and workshops are also tailored to PWDA Board and Member initiatives. This year’s event will provide targeted discussions centered on innovative practices and real talk on pressing needs and opportunities presented to Pennsylvania’s workforce development system:

  • SolutionTalks A PWDA Board guided discussion tailored to bring together LWDB staff and identify evidence based, data-informed and best practice solutions to a re-occurring workforce development need. The 2019 SolutionsTalk will focus on intentional and strategic discussion among LWDB staff on Meeting TANF Client Employment Needs. SolutionsTalk attendees include PWDA Ad-hoc group members and national/state/local experts.
  • IP Roundtable – Hosted by the PA Workforce Development Board (PWDB), an Industry Partnership Roundtable will bring together IPs from across the state, deploying Next Generation IP and other IP models to collaborate on , sector strategies, prioritize the talent needs of Pennsylvania’s targeted industry clusters and business members, and identify on-going initiatives across IP models. Roundtable attendees are identified through state grantees and targeted non-grantees expressing interest, in conjunction with the PWDB.

Cancellations
A refund (less a $75 administrative fee) will be made only if cancellation is received in writing by September 13, 2019.  All cancellations must be submitted in writing to register@pawork.org). Cancellations received after September 13, will not receive a refund.  All refunds will be processed and made by check following the Symposium.  We are unable to make exceptions to this policy. Thank you for understanding.

For overnight accommodations, contact The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center directly at 800-233-7505 and reference WDBS19A to receive the discount rate of $126.  PWDA’s room block will be released on September 16, 2019, after this date reservations will be accepted on a space and rate available basis.
