Bi-partisan CAREER Act introduced by Ohio, Colorado Senators

Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) introduced a workforce reform bill known as the Careers through Responsive, Efficient and Effective Retraining (CAREER) Act. The Act is designed to streamline dozens of federal workforce programs while giving community colleges and career technical institutions priority access to funding.  Click here for more information about the CAREER Act, and check out National Skills Coalition's overview of the legislation.

NSC:  Workforce funds likely cut for rest of 2013

According to the Training and Empoyment Notice (TEN) published by the US Department of Labor last week, workforce funding will be cut for the remainder of the Fiscal Year 2013.  Check out the National Skills Coaltion's article on the impact of sequestration on workforce funds for the remainder of FY2013 and FY2014.

 

WIA bill update:  H.R. 803 (SKILLS Act) passes House Committee

The Republican-sponsored bill H.R. 803 (SKILLS Act) passed the House Committee on Education and the Workforce 23-0.  House Democrats left during the middle of the hearing.  Read more
